Nigel Livesley, MD, MPH, is the Country Director for the USAID Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) project in India. An internal medicine and infectious diseases physician, he has managed patients with AIDS, providing direct patient care as well as an HIV care program in Africa, with more than 15 years of experience, including field experience in Africa. He has worked in HIV care and treatment in South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Cote d'Ivoire, and Canada. He has also managed a PEPFAR-funded HIV care and treatment program in a rural health sub-district in South Africa. In his current role, he mentors teams in East Africa, advising technical staff and supporting them to publish and share their results. He oversees a number of countries in which HCI works without a COP and is skilled in developing and maintaining close relationships with USAID Missions and local counterparts, seeing that targets and deliverables are met. In his previous role as Regional Director for East Africa, he undertook the development of a community of leaders from MOH QI units in East Africa, enabling them to share their experiences in QI and thereby increasing south-to-south exchange in the region.
