Jorge Hermida is the director of the ASSIST programs in the Latin American Region, managed by the University Research Corporation in Bethesda, MD. He is an internationally recognized expert in maternal and child care quality assurance, health care improvement and services delivery, as well as an experienced manager of national and international programs. Dr. Hermida directed the Latin America Maternal Mortality Reduction Initiative and has worked closely with United Nations Agencies. He received an M.D. from the University of Cuenca and an M.P.H. from the Central University of Ecuador.
