Cecil Haverkamp is country director of the University Research Co., LLC in Botswana - a global organization dedicated to improving the quality and impact of social services and systems. In Botswana, his work focuses on strengthening the community health system response to HIV/AIDS (under USAID-ASSIST) as part of a broader PEPFAR-Government partnership to achieve epidemic control by 2018. He previously served as adviser to the Ministry of Health and the University of Botswana on health system reform and the retention of medical doctors. Cecil started his career in international development at UN headquarters in New York, working first with the UN secretariat and then as the World Health Organization's focal point for the newly coined Millennium Development Goals. Following years with WHO in New York and Cambodia, he joined Harvard University for teaching and managing projects in humanitarian policy, focusing on innovation around how international aid is delivered. While at Harvard he co-founded Aid4Health, an interactive student simulation that has been running at Harvard since 2010, but also expanded to the UK and Beijing, China. Cecil's background is in public policy and administration with a focus on managing reform and rethinking systems.
