Where Does Salzburg Global Offer Internships?

Salzburg Global offers internships in various departments at Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg, Austria. In 2024, we introduced a Development & Communications Internship in our Washington Office.

How Can I Apply for an Internship at Salzburg Global?

Each year, usually in Q4, Salzburg Global shares a call for those wishing to intern at Salzburg Global in Salzburg, Austria, the following year. Internships in various departments are advertised, each with its own application requirements.

I Still Need to Finish My Degree; Can I Still Apply?

Undergraduates working towards a bachelor’s degree with a demonstrable interest in one of Salzburg Global’s program areas may apply for either the Program or Development Internship. The Communications and Library Internships are only open to applicants with an undergraduate or graduate degree in relevant fields.

Can I Apply for More Than One Internship?

Yes, but separate applications must be submitted, tailored to each position.

I Applied Before and Was Rejected. Should I Try Again?

Yes. Salzburg Global receives many more applications for our internship openings than we can accept. Therefore, we can only offer internship opportunities to a few people who are qualified for an internship with us. Therefore, it is worth submitting another application, ideally with reference to your previous application.

Is There a Closing Date for Sending in Applications?

Yes. This information is available on each internship’s page.

May I Submit an Open/Unsolicited/Spontaneous Application?

No. Applications will only be considered that are submitted when the call for applications is open. Additionally, only applications that follow the application guidelines, including all required information submitted via our application form, will be considered.

Are the Internship Periods Fixed?

Yes. Each internship lasts three months. Not all internships are available throughout the year. Specific internship periods are listed on each internship description page. Please state in your application which periods you prefer. Due to program scheduling and accommodation reasons, we regret that we cannot accommodate internship requests outside these fixed periods.

Is There an Age Limitation for Applying for an Internship?

Yes. Salzburg Global challenges current and future leaders to shape a better world. Our Internship Program is specially tailored to those future leaders and thus designed for young professionals. How Long is an Internship?

All internships are scheduled for three months, except when explicitly stated otherwise, starting from your arrival date.

Can the Internship Period be Extended?

No. We cannot extend the internship because of Austrian labor law and visa regulations. Therefore 90 days is the maximum length that Interns can work for Salzburg Global.

What are the roles and responsibilities of an Intern?

The roles and responsibilities of an Intern will vary depending on the specific internship. Please see the internship descriptions for more information. All Interns are responsible for working with all staff members to support upcoming programs and Salzburg Global’s activities in general.

Do I need a visa to work as an Intern in Salzburg?

If you are not a citizen of the European Union, you will need a visa for your internship. After you've accepted an internship offer, the Internship Program Manager will contact you regarding the appropriate visa application paperwork and process.

Does Salzburg Global Provide Any Accommodation?

Yes. Interns are housed in the Intern Apartment in the Meierhof, beside Schloss Leopoldskron. Interns will have access to shared bedrooms, en suite bathrooms, and a shared kitchen and living room. There are no lodging fees for Interns, except for a €100 security deposit. We will return this deposit at the end of the internship.

Will I Be Informed About the Outcome of My Application in Any Case?

Yes. Salzburg Global will contact each applicant regarding the status of their application.

Do I Need To Be Able To Speak German To Take Part in the Internship Program?

No. English is the working language of Salzburg Global. Therefore, Interns are not required to speak German. However, if you are a German speaker or hope to practice your German language skills, there are plenty of opportunities to speak German.

What Language Should I Use in My Application for an Internship?

Applications must be submitted in English. Further, please note that the working language of Salzburg Global is English. Therefore, a good knowledge of this language is essential for an internship (excellent writing and communication skills).

Do I Receive Payment for This Internship?

The internships are not paid. However, Salzburg Global provides interns with room and board at Schloss Leopoldskron, travel from and return to the Intern’s country of residence, insurance, visa processing assistance, and excellent networking opportunities with our international program participants. The applicant must pay visa costs.
