In this workshop, we will hear from prominent researchers about current creative and cutting edge research projects that are seeking to better understand how pandemics and protests are impacting our media and civic ecosystems. Each project features unique forms of inquiry, global samples, and insights about how people around the world understand and visualize the impact of the global pandemic on their lives, societies, and futures.
Technology has enabled researchers to record, analyze, and publish data in record time during the pandemic. As the pandemic continues to change and shape our world, what are researchers learning about Covid-19? Our concept of community has changed over the years with digital technologies enabling people to connect across the globe based on interests and identity. But how has Covid-19 impacted how we engage in our communities, both locally and globally. How are media-makers and researchers using the pandemic to change the ways in which we understand risk, solidarity, and mutual dependence? How has COVID impacted media production, consumption, and public trust in media at a time when many are connected to media technologies for work, school, entertainment, and news? How could this pandemic help us imagine and achieve different futures?
In a 75-minute workshop, we will hear about three creative and cutting edge research projects, that allow for questions and answers, whiteboard brainstorms, and open time for dialog, engagement, and debrief.
This program is open to public registration. Participation will not be capped. All partner organizations and Salzburg Global Fellows are welcome to participate. If you are interested, please contact Robert Stearns at rstearns@salzburgglobal.org
