This meeting will seek to examine the relationship between media, governance , and accountability in international development work, why media is a significant yet under-recognized component of this work, and suggest ways in which international development officials can better understand the key drivers of change that are affecting governance and accountability development work. Specifically, the meeting will analyze the role of the media as a powerful driver of change, seek to help establish new coalitions of development agencies and officials, help develop new avenues for multi-stakeholder analysis, and contribute to further building a case for media development as a key component of good governance and accountability.
Some issues to be addressed may include:
- What are the knowledge gaps in development agencies and among officers working on development aid?
- How can we ensure that international development officers and agencies have the best available information on media's key role in development?
- How can leading thinkers on governance and accountability better understand how media development fits into their broader agendas?
- How can the international media development community strategize ways to ensure that the accountability and governance movement in international development agencies understand the role of media development?
- Can accountability work without media? Can development for governance and accountability work without media development?
