European cartoon of the year winner speaks to Salzburg Global about the cartoonist's creative process and the state of the profession
Kevin "KAL" Kallaugher has been crafting his award-winning brand of satire for decades as cartoonist for The Economist and The Baltimore Sun. In February he was awarded the Grand Prix Press Cartoon Europe for an Economist cartoon about the Vatican's stance on homosexuality, and in March was announced the winner of the Herblock Prize by the Herb Block Foundation.
As a participant in Session 547 | The Neuroscience of Art: What are the Sources of Creativity and Innovation?, Kallaugher gave a fascinating and extremely humorous demonstration of his technique, ending with a hands-on masterclass for the Salzburg Global Fellows.
He spoke to Salzburg Global about the cartoonist's creative process, the state of the profession worldwide and the implications of January's Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris.
