Martina Kohl

Writer and Lecturer, Humboldt Universität Berlin, Germany

Martina Kohl is a public diplomacy practitioner, a scholar, writer and teacher. In March 2023, she concluded a thirty-year career as cultural affairs specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, Germany, where she coordinated a Germany-wide speaker and curriculum development program. She served as deputy general editor/general editor of the digital American Studies Journal (2007 - 2021). She holds an M.A. and a Dr. Phil. in American studies, English studies and history from Johannes-Gutenberg University Mainz. Martina studied at Florida Southern College and taught and conducted research at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She regularly teaches in the American studies program at Humboldt University Berlin and was a guest professor in American studies at the Obama Institute at Mainz University, at Göttingen University, and in the digital journalism program at HMKW Berlin. She serves on the advisory board of the Salzburg Global American Studies Program. Her book Family Matters, a fictional memoir, was published by PalmArtPress Berlin (English & German) in the spring of 2023. Martina is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
