Shaireen Rasheed

Professor of Philosophy, Education and Social Justice, Long Island University, USA

Shaireen Rasheed, PhD is a professor of Philosophy, Education and Diversity/Social Justice at Long Island University in New York. She is also a a visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg of Education in Germany and a was a Fulbright visiting professor at the University of Salzburg. For the 2023-2024 year she is a visiting scholar in the Department of Philosophy at Columbia University. She was also visiting fellow at the Harvard Divinity School, New York University and the Columbia Law School.

She has published and lectured extensively on issues related to anti-racist pedagogy and inclusion, right wing populism, intercultural dialogue, gender, Islamophobia, creating sustainable and civic minded curriculum for refugees and migrants and issues of belonging. civic minded . Most recently she co-authored a special issue in the Studies in Philosophy and Education Journal, "Deconstructing Privilege in the Classroom: Teaching as a Racialized Activity." And is working on an edited book on the role of critical race theory and national populism in the European context.

She has a published book titled, "An Existentialist Curriculum of Action: Creating a Language of Freedom and Possibility." She also works with educators, activists and researchers to create inclusive pedagogies and best practices for diverse students. She received her M. Phil and PhD at Columbia University in Philosophy. And her Masters degree in Philosophy from The New School. She has a Bachelors in Philosophy (Honors) from SUNY Stony Brook.
