Amisa Rashid Ahmed

Founder and Executive Director, Nivishe Foundation, Kenya

Amisa Rashid, a multiple award-winning figure and part of the 100 most influential young Africans of 2021, is a counseling psychologist and dedicated mental health advocate. Hailing from Kenya's ethnically marginalized Nubian community and raised in Kibra, one of Kenya's largest informal settlements, she founded the Nivishe Foundation. The organization is a response to health disparities, focusing on community-based mental health interventions, innovations, approaches and trauma-informed approaches, striving for resilient societies. Amisa has been appointed as the first community health expert on matters Mental Health by EnableMe which is a global platform for people with disability. Amisa Amisa's accomplishments include being a 2019 YALI fellow, 2022 AstraZeneca Young Health Leader, and a 2022 One Young World Ambassador. Additionally, she serves as the inaugural community mental health expert at EnableMe, a global platform for individuals with disabilities. Honored with the 2021 & 2022 Invincible Leaders Awards from Africans Rising, Amisa contributes significantly to Africa's transformative movements. On a personal level, she mentors young girls and women from her Nubian community on leadership, while also participating in esteemed fellowships such as the 2023 WomenliftHealth and 2023 Women Leaders for the World cohort. Her experience as a senior leader has equipped her with the skills necessary to lead organizations at a board level.

She is currently serving as a board of trustee with both Restless Development and Irise UK Global Board. Additionally, She is a board of director with Kenyan National Organizations like Raising Futures Kenya, SIASA PLACE that focuses on youth and governance and Young Women Leadership Institute (YWLI ) . With her Enthusiasm to build movements, Amisa is the current Co-chair of the board at RHIZE . Amisa serves as a Board of Director with several Global and local organisations including SHM Foundation that works globally to drive positive social change in the areas of mental health and wellbeing.
