Fernando Garcia

Founder and Executive Director, Border Network for Human Rights, USA

Fernando Garcia is the founding director of the Border Network for Human Rights (BNHR) in 1998. Since then, Fernando has spent the last 21 years fighting for human rights in the US/Mexico border region through its unique community approach and has successfully directed US/Mexico border campaigns focusing on human rights, including border enforcement accountability, which has resulted, and can be seen reflected in new legislation in the US Congress HR2203. Other notable and equally important campaigns led by Fernando include: the New Ellis Island Dialogues; the Hugs-Not-Walls Campaign; the Law Enforcement Abuse Documentation Campaigns and, most recently, the #ElPasoFirme campaign, which came in the aftermath of the August 3rd white-supremacist attacks in El Paso Texas. Under Fernando's guidance, BNHR continues to work tirelessly to educate, organize, and civically engaged border communities so that they may empower themselves and demand the changes and rights they deserve.
