Heejin Choi

Educator, Author, and Entrepreneur, Sabbatical Times, South Korea

Heejin Choi has propelled her dedication to sustainable development in urbanizing low- and middle-income countries for over 15 years. She authored the 'Future Cities' chapter in 'The Routledge Handbook of Sustainable Cities and Landscapes in the Pacific Rim,' published in 2022, a textbook for mayors and government officials in Asia, and contributed as a reviewer for the United Nations report, '2019 The Future of Asian and Pacific Cities.' Going beyond her role as "an architect of the built environment," Heejin has recently expanded her social responsibilities as "an architect of time." She is developing a media startup, Sabbatical Times, dedicated to empowering individuals, organizations, and societies to imagine and shape better futures through rest, contemplation, and growth. Heejin also serves as a faculty member at Metaverse Theological & Extended Studies Institute, where she leads sessions on 'Vocational Formation' and 'Soul of Leadership,' guiding and inspiring young leaders on their transformative journeys. She holds a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Ewha Womans University College of Engineering, two master's degrees, one in Urban Design from Seoul National University and another in International Development Studies from Cornell University, and is currently pursuing Theological Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary.
