Dr. Manuel (Manny) Chavez is a professor of international and crisis journalism at the School of Journalism in Michigan State University, he also is director of Global Initiatives in the Center for Journalism Studies. His research focus on the sociology of the media, international news media systems, media legal issues, and crises reporting. He also focuses on issues related to international affairs on the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. He directs the International Collaboratory on Crisis Communication working on crisis reporting in the newsrooms. He received different awards such as the 2019 AEJMC Kudson Best Book Award. His research has been funded by U.S. National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, USAID, and from private foundations. He has been reviewer of major journals on journalism and media studies, Latino media, international studies, and border scholarship. Currently, he serves as the president of the Association for Latino Media Markets and Communication Research Scholars.
