Lik Sam Chan is an assistant professor and the coordinator of the global communication undergraduate program at the School of Journalism and Communication, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Sam's research takes an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to examine the intricate relationship between digital platforms, gender and sexuality, and culture. Currently, he is researching emerging dating app cultures. He is the author of The Politics of Dating Apps: Gender, Sexuality, and Emergent Publics in Urban China (MIT Press, 2021). He is the co-chair of the LGBTQ Studies Interest Group of the International Communication Association. He obtained his Ph.D. in communication from the University of Southern California, USA.
