Through his work, Matt has made unique contributions to improving pandemic preparedness and response in cities by engaging mayors, urban leaders, and city networks around the world in advocacy and capacity-strengthening efforts; developing new tools and resources to improve urban pandemic preparedness, response, and resilience; and collecting, co-editing, and publishing a volume on innovative models being used in cities to prepare for infectious disease outbreaks (Inoculating Cities: Case Studies of Urban Pandemic Preparedness). His research interests represent the nexus of urban design, public policy, and public health - specifically as it relates to pandemic preparedness and response in cities and urban environments.
