Rochelle Gatt

Assistant Lecturer, MCAST, Malta

Rochelle Gatt is currently a lecturer at MCAST University. She is a qualified radiographer, however after pursuing a career related to anatomical imaging, and having danced most of her life, she decided to further her studies in dance where she joined the University of Malta School of Performing Arts BA (Hons) degree programme, graduating in 2015. She was awarded a scholarship to partake in a research process in Asturias with Lucia Piquero and Joshua Cienfuegos (Spain) 2016. She continues to participate in many interdisciplinary projects working with international artists as she freelances. She has performed solo works by Lucia Piquero (Spain) and Athanasia Kanellopoulou (Greece) and Contact Dance Company. Rochelle's main interests lie in contact improvisation, athleticism and acrobatics through movement as well as resistant fluidity. She has written a masters for physical theatre at Accademia Teatro Dimitri in 2017-2019. There, she produced her own solo production 'The Nose Knows'. Her tenants rely on the use of floor work, acrobatics and an understanding of animal behavioral instincts. She has additionally taught creative movement in Berlin, to help children from the age of two and upwards to integrate better within a bilingual education system through dance and movement. Rochelle is currently finalizing a project that brought the feedback method of DASARTS to the artistic community of Malta for the first time.
