Matthew Pigatt

Mayor, City of Opa-locka, USA

Matthew Pigatt is mayor of the City of Opa-locka, author of The Academic Hustle: The Ultimate Guide to Scholarships, Internships, and Job Offers, and a Black historian. He has been recognized as one of the 50 Most Powerful Black Leaders of South Florida, The Miami Times' New Generation of Dreamers, Legacy Magazine's 40 under 40, BMe Community Genius, and Harvard Business School's Young American Leaders. He conducted national award-winning research at UC-Berkeley, Emory, and Morehouse on high-achieving Black men. Recently, Matthew was former chair of the premier mentoring program for boys in South Florida, the 100 Black Men of South Florida Leadership Academy. Currently, he is the founder of the annual South Florida HBCU Picnic and the Sankofa Cypher: An Africana History, Culture and Thought group. Matthew graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College with a B.A. in African American studies and psychology.
