Alexis Adande

Former Chairman of the West African Museum Program (WAMP); Professor, Université Abomey Calavi, Cotonou, Benin

Alexis Adande lectured archaeology at the University of Abomey-Calavi before he retired in 2012. Between 1995-2001, he held the position of executive director of the West African Museums Programme in Dakar and he was part of the training team at the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain in Porto-Novo, Bénin. He also trained site managers for Africa 2009, an ICCROM Program, as well as for the African World Heritage Funds Programs. He is a member of the Equipe de Recherche Archéologique Béninoise, which celebrated 40 years of existence on December 18, 2018. He is also an active member of the West African Archaeological Association of which he was the chairman from 1992 to 1994.

He wrote several papers presented in colloquia, conferences at national, regional and international levels, and contributed to collective publications. He co-edited 'Museums and Urban Culture in West Africa' (James CURREY, 2002) and he edited 'Integration régionale, démocratie et panafricanisme - paradigmes anciens, nouveaux défis' (CODESRIA, 2007). He co-authored a collective book titled 'Du Brésil au Bénin: contribution à l'étude des patrimoines familiaux aguda au Bénin' (Les Editions Plurielles, 2018).
