Dina Dabo

Dina Dabo is a project coordinator for the University of Cape Town's Re-centring Afro-Asia project that aims to retrace the historical connections between Africa and Asia between the 7th and 15th century. She is currently coordinating the project in Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland. Her research interests have focused on cultural heritage topics as well as social and environmental issues that are prevalent in Southern African countries. Most recently, she has been working on a paper on the 'Mwaka Kogwa festival' in Zanzibar. Her academic studies placed particular emphasis on examining oral accounts by local people about their lived experiences of culture and traditional practices. Additionally, she has also focused on oral history from the local community to gain an understanding of the interplay between state and local government and how this relationship significantly influences socio-ecological matters. She received a B.Sco.Sc. (Hons) and an M.Phil. from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
