Stella Murungi works in the Security Management and Protection Department of East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP), where she is in charge of extending support to Human Rights Defenders (HRD) at risk within the sub-regions. She travels regionally to coach HRDs in conflict areas and LGBTI community in Uganda on how to better protect themselves in the course of their human rights work, and liaises with local, regional, and international partners on the means and implementation of such protective actions. Ms. Murungi has been instrumental in compiling the internal guidelines on which EHAHRDP relies in extending support to HRDs. She is closely involved in maintaining organization’s the 5 year Plan of Action and engaging with partners to gather their views on individual country situations as well as the specific aspects to address in the area of protection, advocacy, and capacity building. Ms. Murungi holds a B.A. in law from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
