Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino

Founder of designswarm & Good Night Lamp, London, United Kingdom

Alexandra is a designer working at the intersection of industrial design and technology. She moved to London in 2007 to start Tinker London, the first UK distributor of the Arduino, an open source electronics education platform. As CEO, she grew the business, offering connected product design services to clients such as BBC, Electricité de France, Alfa Romeo, Whirlpool, Arup, National Geographic, The Evening Standard, Sony, British Telecom, M&S, and Volkswagen. Since 2011 she has been an independent consultant helping clients understand the new world of connected product experiences and growing her own: the Good Night Lamp. These connected lamps for global friends and family take advantage of mobile networks to help people sync up across time zones and in an ambient way. She is the author of Smarter Homes: how technology has changed your home life published by Apress and has been organizing the London Internet of Things meetup, now the second largest meetup in the world dedicated to this topic. Alexandra is steering a community effort to build a certification mark for connected products. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the New York Museum of Modern Art and the London Design Museum. She completed a master's degree at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea and a bachelor's in industrial design from the Université de Montréal.
