Arthur Kaufman

Program Director, Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque

Arthur Kaufman (Co-Chair) is professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. During his career at the University spanning almost thirty years, he has held a variety of administrative posts, including director of Undergraduate Medical Education, director of the Primary Care Curriculum, and director of the Health of the Public Program. His research experience and interests have focused upon the use of problem-based, community-oriented educational innovations which address the needs of underserved populations. He is also secretary general of The Network: Community Partnerships for Change through Innovative Education, Service, and Research, Maastricht, Netherlands. His work at The Network, an international NGO dedicated to fostering increased relevance of universities to the priority health needs of their communities, includes establishing partnerships and promoting a bi-directional exchange of innovations among academic health centers in different parts of the world. He serves as co-chair for the New Mexico Governor's Task Force on Victims of Sex Crimes. Dr. Kaufman received his M.D. from the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center, and completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York City.
