Donewell Bangure is an epidemiologist with African Union, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). He was among the first field epidemiologist responders for the African Union Support for Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA) in 2014-2015. For two years, Donewell served as a Field Coordinator for the Zimbabwe Field Epidemiology Training Program and also as a Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist for ten years with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe. Donewell was among the team of experts that was involved in the Joint External Evaluation for Liberia and Afghanistan where they assessed the two countries' capacity under the International Health Regulations (2005), to prevent, detect and rapidly respond to public health threats. He also played a pivotal role in the response in Sierra Leone during the August 2017 mudslide disaster that killed more than 500 people. He was among the first rapid responders to the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo on the 11th of July 2018. Donewell is a graduate of the Africa CDC Fellowship Programme and has expert skills in event based and indicator based surveillance and management of public health emergency response. Donewell is a medical laboratory sciences graduate, has graduate level training in public health, and is currently working on a PhD in Public Health.
