Boitshoko Mokgatlhe

Head, Sudan/South Sudan Section, African Union Commission, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Boitshoko Mokgatlhe is the coordinator of the Sudan and South Sudan Unit in the Peace and Security Department of the African Union Commission. He has been in this position since August 2015 and with the African Union Commission since 2003. In 2011, Boitshoko was appointed as the AU Facilitator to the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee (AJOC)- a position he holds to date. Boitshoko has also been working with the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), led by former president Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, since its inception in 2009. Boitshoko has thus taken part in all mediation efforts in Sudan and South Sudan as part of the AU Commission. Since 2015, he has been working closely with the African Union High Representative for South Sudan, with former president Alpha Oumar Konare, providing him with advice on a full range of operational and policy approaches on South Sudan's peace process. In this regard, Boitshoko has been working in conflict areas such as Darfur, Abyei, South Kordofan, Blue Nile, South Sudan and Sudan, some of which are partly exacerbated by climate change, some by low levels of education.
