Margarita Barney de Cruz

President and Co-Founder, Group to Promote Education and Sustainable Development (GRUPEDSAC), Naucalpan, Mexico

Margarita Barney de Cruz is president and co-founder of the Group to Promote Education and Sustainable Development (GRUPEDSAC), Naucalpan, Mexico, a non-profit organization committed to developing and implementing strategies that promote sustainable societies. Currently, GRUPEDSAC is conducting a pilot project, sponsored by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, that aims to improve the general health and nutritional standards of seven communities within the State of Mexico. The project provides training on alternative agricultural technologies, sustainable food production, and support for micoenterprises. Ms. Barney de Cruz’s interests encompass environmental education, rural and community development, permaculture, waste management, and alternative technologies. She serves as president of the Citizens’ Participation Committee of the State of Mexico Environmental Protection Council. She is also former president of the Mexican Federation of Private Health and Community Development Associations, Cd. Juarez, Mexico. Ms. Barney de Cruz received a B.A. in letters from the School of Philosophy and Letters, Chihuahua, and a diploma in Ecology, Population and Development from Iberoamericana University, Mexico City.
