Kalyan Paul is founding executive director of the Pan Himalayan Grassroots Development Foundation in Uttarakhand, an organization that carries out holistic mountain development activities through community participation in the central and western Himalaya. Mr. Paul’s works include implementing direct applications of appropriate technologies such as drinking water systems and infiltration wells, catchment area treatment, rainwater harvesting, and land use optimization. Mr. Paul holds an M.A. in economics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science and in social work from Delhi Univesity. He is a fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar Session 404, The Politics of Water – Addressing Fresh Water Scarcity, in 2002; and Session 444, New Century, New Challenges, New Dilemmas: The Global Nexus of Animal and Public Health, in 2007.
