Yousif al-Khoei

Director, Centre for Academic Shi'a Studies and Director of Public Affairs, Al-Khoei Foundation

Yousif al-Khoei is the director of the Centre for Academic Shi'a Studies and also director of Public Affairs at the Al-Khoei Foundation. This philanthropic foundation operates a number of pioneering educational, social, and religious programmes in the United Kingdom, as well as in New York, Montreal, Paris, Bangkok, Islamabad and several other worldwide locations. Al-Khoei Foundation was granted General Consultative Status at the Social and Economic Council of the UN in 1996 in recognition of these projects. Mr. Al-Khoei is engaged in a number of strategic programs including interfaith, Intra faith, community cohesion, capacity building and academic projects locally and nationally. He takes a leading role in projecting his community's perspectives to British Muslims and since 1993 has offered different governmental and non-governmental departments various levels of advice and consultations. Mr. Al-Khoei is a regular participant and contributor to numerous inter-faith conventions and intra-faith projects and conferences. He was a commissioner for the Islamophobia project and a founding member of FAIR (Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism). He is a founding member of the National Council for the Welfare of Muslim Prisoners, a member of the Prison Service chaplaincy Council and is the Shia Muslim advisor to HM Prisons. Mr Al-Khoei is a founding member of the Mosque and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB) and is currently the director of the Centre of Academic Shia Studies which has organised conferences and seminars in co-ordination with the Middle East Department of SOAS.
