The pandemic has stimulated even-greater technological innovation paving the way for new forms of money, including stablecoins and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC). The world of decentralized finance (DeFi) is extending beyond cryptocurrencies into insurance, derivatives trading and other areas. What kind of changes are there for central banks, regulators, and the financial sector?

Through a series of “virtual coffee breaks” the Salzburg Global Finance Forum provided an informal space for participants of the June program – Financial Services in the Post-Pandemic Era: An Opportunity for a Green and Digitally Enabled Recovery – to delve more deeply into themes and share further learnings. Each discussion will be led by a leading figure in the finance sector.

This discussion was led by J. Christopher Giancarlo, former Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Participation was limited to Fellows of the Salzburg Global Finance Forum and capped at max. 25 participants to keep conversations open and candid.
