Kishore Mahbubani - “This Conference Has Been Very Valuable”

Former Singaporean diplomat reviews session held by The Volcker Alliance and Salzburg Global

Mahbubhani speaking during a panel session

Kishore Mahbubani, dean and professor in the Practice of Public Policy of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, has praised Salzburg Global and The Volcker Alliance.

The two organizations recently held a joint session on ‘Restoring the Public’s Trust: Delivering on Public Policy Goals’, attended by a number of public and private sector individuals, including Mr Mahbubani.

In our latest podcast, he describes how the session has enabled participants from the United States to develop a better understanding of what is achieved elsewhere around the world.

He points to the success of public policy programs in Singapore and how this has been achieved by exchanging best practices with other countries.

Mr Mahbubani continues to serve as a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Global Advisory Council. Between 1971 and 2004, he had postings with the Singapore Foreign Service, including two stints as Singapore’s ambassador to the UN. He was President of the UN Security Council in January 2001 and May 2002.

During the four-day workshop, he spoke at a plenary session on the role of education and training and the effect it had on improving policy creation and execution.

He has previously been a faculty member at Salzburg Global Seminar for the session on 'China and the Global Economy', held in 2004.
