Salzburg Global Seminar, in partnership with nine of the top US law schools, launched in 2012 a one-of-a-kind program for law students interested in international law and public service. Named for presidential adviser and Salzburg Seminar Board Chair Lloyd N. Cutler, the Salzburg Cutler Fellows Program: The Future of Public and Private International Law convenes annually 45 students nominated by their law schools with leading judges and practitioners for a highly interactive exploration of public and private international law.
The two-day seminar will be held in Washington, DC and allow participants to present their own research and scholarship on leading edge topics, refine their concepts based on criticism received from international experts, explore career options and build global networks with peers and practitioners alike. Faculty and discussants are drawn from the nine partner law schools, firms with leading international practice groups, domestic and international courts and lawyers serving in public service roles. Selected Salzburg Cutler Fellows also receive scholarships to attend Salzburg seminars on topics germane to their interests.
The Salzburg Cutler Fellows Program aims to encourage the careers of exceptional young lawyers - men and women who will shape the future course of international law and legal institutions. Each of the partner law schools nominates five of its most outstanding students each year to become Salzburg Cutler Fellows. The students may be drawn from second or third-year classes, and from LLM or Doctor of Laws programs. A mix of US and international students is encouraged, and opportunities are provided for Fellows to maintain contact as their careers unfold.

Salzburg Cutler Fellows are invited to attend the annual Lloyd Cutler Lecture at The Phillips Collection in 2013, to be given by US Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer (hosted by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, retired).

Cutler Fellows will meet in small thematic groups to present and discuss individual student research proposals prepared by students and circulated in advance. Professors will engage in discussion with the Cutler Fellows and provide targeted feedback on each proposal. Thematic groups focus on different topics.

The Salzburg Cutler Fellows Program will bring together 45 second-year law students to work in session with faculty and professionals. Each law school has sent five Fellows, selected based on strong academic records and interest in international law. Participants are selected by their schools through an application and nomination process.
