Tunggal Pawestri

Consultant of Sexual Rights and Diversity Programme - Hivos, Indonesia

Tunggal Pawestri is a consultant for Hivos Southeast Asia based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She gives advice to facilitate the program design and provides technical expertise on gender equality, sexual rights, and diversity issues. Tunggal is currently developing a resource pool of women called "women unlimited" in Indonesia to ensure more women representation in the public debates and leadership. She also manages some projects related to LGBT rights issues, working with religious leaders on gender and sexual diversity. She regularly writes op-eds on human rights issues, gender, and LGBTI rights issues for the Jakarta Globe, the Jakarta Post and a number of other national newspaper and media outlets. She is currently a regular columnist for Deutsche Welle online (Indonesia section). She has also co-written a book on Understanding Gender Injustice. Tunggal has also co-produced three short films and one feature film related to gender, sexuality, and human rights. One of the films, "The Fox Exploits the Tiger's Might" directed by Lucky Kuswandi, has been selected in a competition at Cannes Film Festival and won awards at the Indonesian Film Festival 2015 and the Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival 2016. Another film that she produced just won an award at the most recent Indonesian Film Festival and has been screened at a number of other international film festivals.
