Tracey Meares

Tracey is the Walton Hale Hamilton professor and a founding director of the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School. Before joining Yale, she was a professor at the University of Chicago Law School from 1995 to 2007. She was the first African American woman granted tenure at both law schools. Tracey is a nationally recognized expert on policing in urban communities, who has worked extensively with the federal government, including being a member of President Barack Obama's Task Force on 21st Century Policing. In 2019, Tracey was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She received a B.S. in general engineering from the University of Illinois and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
