Naomi Clara Hanakata

Co-founder & Principal Planner, HANAKATA, Singapore

Naomi Hanakata is an architect and urban planner. She is co-founder and principal planner at HANAKATA and is also a senior researcher and coordinator at the Future Cities Laboratory of ETH in Singapore. Her research, teaching and practice is dedicated towards sustainable, just, healthy and beautiful urban environments. Her work investigates emerging demands in high-density urban areas, integrated climate change mitigation strategies and water as a central challenge and leverage for future cities. She has practices in Zurich, Tokyo, New York and Singapore as a planner and consultant, and has taught at Rice University, ETH and the National University of Singapore. Naomi also holds a bachelor's of arts in cultural studies, a bachelor's of science ETH Arch, a master's of science ETH Arch, a postgraduate diploma from LSE and a Ph.D. from ETH.
