Petra Jansa is a Ph.D. candidate in communication and cultural studies at Charles University, Prague. Her research balances on the boundary between communication and urban ethnography and focuses on the socio-cultural significance of festivals in contemporary urban society. In the case of urban festivals, she is primarily interested in their impact on the local community and usage of the public space. She spent the last three years investigating Krymska Street in Prague, where the gentrification process of the whole area has begun. She also participated in short-term research in Pavia and Paris. Petra has recently received a three-year-long grant to research the impact of the festival on life in the post-industrial city of Ostrava. Outside academia, Petra is involved in the production and communication of cultural events (TEDxPrague, Forum 2000 Conference, ICA Conference 2019 in Prague, International documentary film festival One World and Prague Quadrennial Festival). She also teaches in new media in art and culture at the Masaryk University in Brno and works as a community manager for the Dance Career Endowment Fund.
