Ignacio Rodriguez

Founder and Director, EPIX, Venezuela

Ignacio "Ini" Rodríguez is a social entrepreneur, filmmaker, photographer, and engineer. He is the founder and director of EPIX, a social enterprise that uses the art of storytelling to inspire and transform people's lives. Before starting EPIX, he founded Fremu to connect remote communities through internet forums in Nepal, the Philippines, and India with thousands of young social entrepreneurs globally. He previously worked as a consultant in education and ICT (information and communication technology) projects in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He has lived in 6 countries, worked in dozens, and has a photography and filming portfolio of over 30 countries. His current project, EPIX, has reached thousands around the world through the web and in exhibitions showing a different side of Venezuela's severe crisis. He has been awarded fellowships from the US Department of State and the International Youth Foundation, and his work as a social entrepreneur has been recognized with the Emerging Leaders Award by the New Media Consortium, co-hosted by MIT. He is a speaker and facilitator and has previously participated in conferences in Doha, Seoul, London, Caracas, Dubai, Boston, Zurich, Madrid, Paris, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro, including as opening speaker at the Education World Forum 2011. He holds a bachelor's degree in production engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela.
