Senel Wanniarachchi

Co-Founder and Director, Hashtag Generation, Sri Lanka

Senel Wanniarachchi is the co-founder and a director of Hashtag Generation,

a movement led by a group of young tech-savvy Sri Lankans advocating for meaningful civic and political participation of young Sri Lanka. He is a board member of the Innovation for Change South Asia Hub, which is a regional network of people and organizations that works towards defending and strengthening the civic space in the region. In 2018, he co-authored a book titled Montage of Sexuality in Sri Lanka, which was published by the UN Population Fund. In 2017, he received a medal from Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his work on using social and new media tools to empower young people to meaningfully engage in decision-making processes. In 2014, he was selected as Sri Lanka's official youth delegate to the United Nations. He was also a member of the Sri Lanka Youth Parliament. He holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and recently completed a master's degree in human rights at the London School of Economics on a Chevening Scholarship.
