Liteboho Makhele

Program Manager, Sustainable Cities, South African Cities Network, South Africa

Liteboho Makhele is program manager of Sustainable Cities at the South African Cities Network. She joined the organization in 2017, and her research is focused on city transitions to sustainability, working with South Africa's metropolitan municipalities. Recognizing that the transition to sustainable urban development is not the responsibility of cities alone, one of Liteboho's responsibilities is to strengthen strategic partnerships and encourage collaboration, knowledge dissemination and application among key urban actors in all three spheres of government, academia and research institutions, the private sector, civil society and global institutions. Liteboho's experience spans 17 years in the built environment working in both the public and private sectors at a research institute, an international consulting firm, a government department and a private company, with a focus on applied research, sustainability, governance and urban development. She holds a B.Tech in architectural technology and a bachelor's degree in sustainable development and planning and management from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
