Vedette Gavin is a connector, researcher and social alchemist, who has dedicated her career to the strengthening and flourishing of marginalized people and communities across in the United States. Living out her mantra - "all power to all of the people", she has committed her career to engage and unlock the insights of everyday people in their communities to identify, understand, and solve their most pressing civic, social and health challenges. Currently, Vedette serves as the director of research and partnerships at the Conservation Law Foundation in Boston, Massachusetts, where she founded and leads the Healthy Neighborhoods Research Consortium, a partnership of community residents, grassroots organizations, and public institutions working together to solve challenges at the intersection of neighborhoods and health. Vedette is also the co-founder, and former director of programming and outcomes for New Majority Community Labs - a social enterprise helping everyday people in majority-minority communities build business and civic solutions to solve problems in their local communities. She also served as the director of community engagement at the Case Western Reserve Center for Reducing Health Disparities where she launched Healthy Eating & Active Living, a community-led partnership that engaged more than 2,200 Cleveland residents in transforming neighborhood conditions to foster better health. Prior to that she spent seven years coordinating strategic population health initiatives in the areas of asthma, active transportation and quality of clinical care. Her work is recognized by the American Public Health Association, Centers for Disease Control, and Public Health England. Vedette holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park, an M.P.H. from The Ohio State University, and an M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government where she was an inaugural Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellow.
