Ugyen Wangdi

Member of Parliament, National Assembly, Bhutan

Ugyen Wangdi is serving his second term as a member of Parliament of Bhutan in the National Assembly. He serves as a member on both the Legislative and Human Rights Committee. As a member of these committees, he reviews the bills that come to Parliament for enactment and also proposes amendments to laws which may not conform with international conventions, treaties or agreements. On the Human Rights Committee, he reviews policies and bills from the human rights perspective and submits necessary recommendations to the government and other agencies. Ugyen previously served as the chairperson of the Legislative Committee and as a member of the National Judicial Commission of the National Assembly from 2008-2013. Prior to joining politics in 2007, he worked for the Anti-Corruption Commission of Bhutan as the chief legal officer. In 2004, he was a member of the Bhutanese delegation presenting Bhutan's report at the UN's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women in New York. Ugyen holds several degrees including LL.M from Dalhousie University, Canada, an LL.B from University of Mumbai, India and a B.A.Eco. (Hons) from Sherubtse College, Bhutan.
