Louis Mendy is a professor of American Studies at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. He is the author of many scientific articles in American literature and two books entitled: Survivances de la doctrine du puritanisme dans l'Amérique moderne (2015) and Representations of Africa in American and Caribbean Studies (2021). He is also a Human Rights activist. He chaired Amnesty International, Senegal for some years, before joining the international board of the Organization in London for three years. He was the Director of the Laboratory of American and Caribbean Studies at Cheikh Anta Diop University and is currently the honorary chair of Amnesty International, Senegal. He was a Fulbright visiting scholar at California State University and Kent State University in Ohio. He also participated in the Erasmus Teaching Programs at the universities of Wurzburg (Germany) and Huelva (Spain). Louis is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
