Monika Pisankaneva

Monica Pisankaneva is a project manager at the initiative called Towards Inclusive of LGBTI Students and Staff School Policies, funded by ILGA-Europe, a European region of International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. In this role, she is researching current secondary school policies in Sofia and analyzes texts that address bullying and violence at schools in order to produce a report highlighting the level of protection of LGBTI students and schools staff and providing recommendations for more inclusive school policies. In addition, Ms. Pisankaneva is a philanthropy development manager at the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation, where she works towards introducing new concepts in local giving, specifically open giving circles and youth banks. Previously, Ms. Pisankaneva was a project manager for another ILGA-Europe funded project on promotion of a roadmap for LGBTI equality in Bulgaria, and served as national coordinator of the European Commission funded cross-European project It Takes All Kinds, which addressed homophobia and transphobia at schools. She also served as director of the Bulgarian Fund for Women, a grant-making organization aimed at nurturing awareness of gender inequalities in Bulgaria. Ms. Pisankaneva holds an M.A. in psychology from the Sofia University, Bulgaria, and an M.A. in international studies of philanthropy and social entrepreneurship from the University of Bologna, Italy.
