Edward Mortimer

Senior Program Advisor

Edward Mortimer is a Senior Program Advisor to Salzburg Global Seminar, with particular responsibility for the program on The Global Prevention of Genocide: Learning from the Holocaust, but also giving general advice to the Chief Program Officer on program content and faculty recruitment. From February 2007 to January 2012 he was himself Senior Vice President and Chief Program Officer. His earlier career was in journalism, with the London Times and Financial Times, followed by eight years at the United Nations (1998 to 2006), where he served as chief speechwriter and director of communications to Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Edward is the author of several books, including Faith and Power: the Politics of Islam (1982). In 2010 he was awarded the CMG for services to international communications and journalism. He holds an M.A. in history from Oxford University, where he is now a Distinguished Fellow of All Souls College.
