Deval Patrick is the Managing Director of BainCapital. He served for eight years as the governor of Massachusetts, where he championed marriage equality, public education, and renewable energy. Patrick has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the UAL Corporation, A Better Chance, Inc., and the Ford Foundation. He joined Coca Cola in 2001 after serving two years as vice president and general counsel of Texaco Inc. While at Texaco, Mr. Patrick headed the legal department and was responsible for the company's worldwide legal affairs. He also served on Texaco's executive council, the company's senior leadership team. From 1997 to 1999, he was a partner of the Boston law firm of Day Berry & Howard. During this time, by appointment of the Federal District Court, Mr. Patrick served as chairperson of Texaco's Equality and Fairness Task Force. In 1994, Mr. Patrick was appointed assistant attorney general in charge of the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, DC, where he was responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting discrimination. A member of the bar of California, the District of Columbia, and Massachusetts, he is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the first, fifth, ninth, and eleventh circuits, and various Federal district courts. Mr. Patrick received a B.A. and a J.D. from Harvard University, Cambridge.
