Ian BROWNis a donor and development relations officer at the University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Through its research institutes, professional and continuing education, and the creation of its undergraduate and graduate schools in secondary cities in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the University offers an internationally recognized standard of higher education in Central Asia and prepare graduates to contribute leadership, ideas and innovation to the economies and communities of the region. Mr. Brown manages programs of the University’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration and its Mountain Societies Research Institute and represents the interests of these, and the University as a whole, to partners including bilateral development agencies, private foundations, and other universities and research institutes. Before joining the University, he served as Fellowship Manager at the Salzburg Global Seminar, where he was responsible for sustaining the activity of the organization’s worldwide network of more than 13,000 participants through strategic forward planning, the implementation of a series of seminars and conferences, and extensive online communications within the network. Mr. Brown was also involved in Salzburg Global initiatives such as the Russian Higher Education Program and Visiting Advisors Program which sought to improve the capacity of senior university administrators in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Mr. Brown holds an M.Sc. in international relations from the University of Glasgow in Scotland and a B.A. in Russian from Middlebury College in Vermont, USA.
