Charles Sennott

Charles SENNOTT is Executive Editor, Vice President and Co-Founder of GlobalPost. An experienced bureau chief, a hard hitting foreign correspondent and an energetic innovator in multimedia, Sennott is uniquely equipped to be a leader in the digital age of international journalism. Through nearly 25 years as a reporter and on-air analyst, Sennott has been on the front lines of wars and insurgencies in 15 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel-Palestine, and Algeria. A long-time foreign correspondent for The Boston Globe, Sennott served as the Globe’s Middle East Bureau Chief from 1997 to 2001 and as Europe Bureau Chief from 2001 to 2005. In 2005, Sennott was awarded a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. In fall 2006, he returned to the Globe newsroom, but left in early 2008 to join Philip S. Balboni as a co-founder of GlobalPost. As Executive Editor, Sennott oversaw the design and development of the site, built a stellar team of some 70 correspondents in 50 countries, and assembled a team of full-time editors at GlobalPost’s headquarters in Boston. Since launching in January, 2009, GlobalPost has built a strong, engaged audience and been widely praised by the industry as a stealth news organization that is reinventing international coverage in the digital age. Sennott holds a Master’s Degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and was awarded an honorary PhD by Providence College for reporting on religion and religious extremism in the Middle East.
