Marty Gecek

Chair - Salzburg Global Seminar American Studies Association (SSASA)

Marty Gecek is the Chair of the Salzburg Seminar American Studies Association, and Director of American Studies symposia at Salzburg Global Seminar. With the help and advice of her Advisory Board, she chooses the annual program theme, which addresses some aspect of the study of America, including the areas of literature, foreign policy, history, cultural studies and popular culture. She invites appropriate faculty members, disseminates program materials to contacts around the world, and is responsible for the selection of attendees. During the symposium she is responsible for all aspects of the program. The Association is self-supporting and she helps to raise funding for scholarships. Marty joined the Salzburg Global Seminar in 1966, and has held a number of positions at the institution, including Office Manager, Associate Director for Administration and Personnel, and Associate Director of the American Studies Center. Marty holds a B.A. in sociology from Hollins University in Virginia, USA.
