Marty Gecek is the chair of the American Studies Advisory Committee at Salzburg Global Seminar. The Advisory Committee proposes topics for American studies programs to Salzburg Global staff, as well as providing suggestions for appropriate speakers and participants, and disseminating information about programs to numerous contacts around the world. She joined Salzburg Global Seminar in 1966 and has held a number of positions at the institution, including associate director of administration and personnel, and associate director of the American Studies Center. For the last 18 years she was chair of the Salzburg Seminar American Studies Association and director of American Studies symposia at Salzburg Global Seminar. She officially retired in 2019 after 53 years at Salzburg Global Seminar. Marty holds a B.A. in sociology from Hollins University in Virginia, USA.
