Ty Cobb

Senior Legislative Counsel, Human Rights Campaign, USA

Ty Cobb serves as senior legislative counsel at Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBT civil rights organization in the United States. He was the lead attorney on HRC's efforts to pass an LGBT-inclusive reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2013 and to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in 2010. He was also responsible for working with the Department of Justice to efficiently and effectively implement the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. Mr. Cobb joined HRC after serving as counsel to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee of the United States Senate. He was an associate attorney at Bracewell & Giuliani and then Sidley Austin from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Cobb received a B.A. in business and American studies from the University of Texas and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He is a member of the Victory Fund's Campaign Board and serves as a mentor with the Point Foundation.
