Betty Overton is clinical professor of higher education at the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education and director of the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good in the School of Education, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to her role at Michigan, she was for eleven years the Provost at Spring Arbor University. Dr. Overton has served as a program director and coordinator of higher education programming at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan, where she provided leadership to a team effort, developed and reviewed programming priorities, evaluated and recommended proposals for funding, and administers projects. Prior to joining the Foundation, she was dean of the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Dr. Overton holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English from Tennessee State University and a Ph.D. in English from the George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She served as a faculty member for Session 323, Higher Education: Institutional Structures for the 21st Century, 1995, and is an alumna of the Salzburg Global Seminar Special Session, Educational Reform in South Africa, 1996.
