Bobbie Foster

Bobbie Foster is a second year journalism Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland, College Park in Maryland, USA. Her studies include topics that intersect with digital culture, visual media, misinformation, and Internet memes. She studied documentary filmmaking at the University of Arkansas, where she later held a position as the assistant director of the Center for Ethics in Journalism. Her dissertation currently explores ways to better develop content analysis in a cross-platform, image-based media system - as well as - the study of Internet memes as a form of community authored intangible cultural heritage. Her most recent work titled, "Hacking Culture Not Code: A Qualitative Analysis of Russian Facebook Social Ads During the 2016 Presidential Election", explores racial identity and "hackable" racial discourses on social media.
